How refreshing to have an intelligent view on this issue, I have beleived from the very beginning that Bush & Co were heavily involved in the 9-11 explosions as they clearly had more to gain than anyone else from the tragedy. i personally think that building the Muslim Community Centre on the site would go a long way to rebuild relations between Muslims and Non Muslims, we should know better than to beleive that all Muslims are terrorists or even have the same views as Bin Laden & Co in the same way we know not all Catholic Priests are child molesters!

Hear that creaking sound? It's the sound of my leftist mind opening..... I am also considering why I had it so tightly closed. Could it be another form of fear that so cripples our country? It's just so difficult for me to accept that any administration could do such a thing. However, if one believes that the ends justify the means........ OK, my mind is open..... Thanks. But, I may not sleep so well.

Cheers!

I'd just like to say that as one of those 'irrational, bile-ridden' small government conservatives, I find the vast difference between progressive and conservative voters fascinating.

Both sincerely believe that they're fighting for freedom. But it seems to me that the progressives have confused liberty with empowerment.

Anyway, I offer that perhaps it isn't fair for you to characterize conservatives' opposition to Obama as racist. I am not a racist, and neither are the many, many conservative African Americans. Yes, they exist. In fact, several of them are arguing that the policies of the left disproportionately hurt urban minority communities!

I would further protest that, when looking at American history, there is a massive shift in American politics in the 1930s. The statists in power are still the minority in the context of American history. The New Dealers, who were Republicans, hijacked the Democratic Party. Both parties remain far to the right to this day.

Constitutionalists advocate reviving the Jeffersonian contrast to the Hamiltonian views of both modern political parties. If you want to characterize a political group as extremist, I suggest you reflect upon the context of your own views.

Oh, and please don't lump thoughtful libertarians with hypocritical Republican idiots like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. And for the sake of your own credibility, don't reference Krugman no matter the jewelry Oslo gives him. Thank you.

Car insurance is only obligatory if you want to drive on government property -- that's much different than requiring a purchase by virtue of being a citizen.

Interesting question. To me, it all depends on the circumstances under which these products were produced, and the extent to which one believes that the creatures who produce them deserve to be left alone. Obviously, if one does not believe that sheep, bees and worms suffer as a result of our breeding and using them for resources, then there's no moral problem in our doing so. If, however, these creatures do suffer because we keep them in captivity and deprive them of the materials they produce, we need to ask whether this is symbiosis or exploitation. I stay clear of wool as much as possible, because of what I know about how it is harnessed. (e.g., industrial sheering can be fairly brutal, and once the sheep stop producing, they are slaughtered), and I use agave nectar instead of honey. Avoiding silk is pretty easy for me.
Symbiosis is a two way street. What are they getting out of the deal?
